Collin Welp was named to the Big West All-Conference first team, while guard
Dawson Baker earned honorable mention the conference office announced Monday.
Welp makes history, becoming the first Anteater to earn first-team honors three times in a career. He joins Anteater legends Ben McDonald, Jerry Green, and Kevin Magee to make three All-Big West teams in their careers. The senior leads the Big West Conference in free throw percentage (.862) and is 11
th in scoring with a 13.7 average. He ranks seventh in rebounding (6.5) and field goal percentage (.426).
Welp has cemented his name in the UCI record books, currently ninth in scoring (1,473) and eighth in rebounding (707). He has been named Big West Player of the Week four times, including twice this season. His last weekly honor came after his second career 30-point performance at UC Riverside where he scored 25 in the second half. Â This Big West distinction adds to his list of accolades, including Big West Sixth Player of the Year in 2019-20, Big West All- Tournament in 2019 and 2021 NABC All-District 9 second team as well as 1 of 50 players named to the 2021-22 Lou Henson National Player of the Year award preseason list.
Baker, the 2021 Big West Freshman of the Year, follows Welp in scoring with a 10.9 average. He posted a career-high 24 points at CSUN and has recorded double-digit points on nine occasions this season. The guard, who has been sidelined part of the season with an injury, also averages 1.1 assists and 2.3 rebounds per outing. Â He has led the team in scoring four times.
Both Anteaters were members of the Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll.
