UCI is in the midst of seven straight matches at home with three in two days this coming weekend ending on a Big West tilt
Storylines
- UC Irvine's seven match homestand continues with the third, fourth, and fifth matches of it
- The 'Eaters have four wins coming against UC Riverside, Caltech, Cal State LA, and George Fox
- Two of UCI's first four matches were Big West contests including the season opener at UC Davis.
- Emily Fowler leads the squad with seven dual match singles wins including four consecutive wins with her match vs. Illinois State unfinished
- Other winning records in singles are Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico at 6-3 at No. 1 with wins in four straight, Alyssia Fossorier at 6-4 with winning records at Nos. 2 and 4 singles, and Dasee Carter has returned from injury and is 3-1 with wins in three straight
- Anteater doubles are 18-17 overall, the duo of Alyssia Fossorier and Jessica Tsukiji are 6-6 together
- Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico is 8-2 overall in doubles between four different doubles partners
- The Anteaters competed in three fall tournaments and the CSUF Spring Invite to start 2022 taking home a total of 27 singles wins and eight doubles wins
- The women's tennis squad finished the fall quarter with the highest grade point average in UCI athletics. "This team takes great pride in their studies and I'm so happy they are being recognized for all their efforts. This is quite an impressive accomplishment," praised coach Ferris.
- Five Anteaters were among the 113 student-athletes on the Fall 2021 Dean's List - Dasee Carter, Megan Mansonhing, Shreya Pavani, Mia Totah, and Jessica Tsukiji - by taking 12 or more units with a 3.500 GPA or higher

- UCI hung with Illinois State last Saturday before falling 4-2 in the second of seven straight at Anteater Tennis Stadium
- The 'Eaters dropped the doubles point despite a win at No. 2 doubles by Gonzalez-Rico and Schlatter
- UCI won at Nos. 1 and 5 singles as Gonzalez-Rico and Carter improve their singles win streaks to four and three matches, respectively
Idaho Vandals
The Vandals come down to Irvine for a Saturday morning matchup. Idaho is 4-5 dropping its most recent match at Boise State to snap a three-match win streak. The Big Sky program is 2-0 defeating Montana State and Montana at home during that win streak.
The squad is led by French senior Melissa Huchet and Portuguese freshman Ines Oliveira trading off at No. 1 and 2 singles. Oliveira is 5-3 overall and 3-1 at No. 1 this season. Huchet has helped the team that is now 6-3 at positions 2 and 3. Canadian junior Nicole Horacek comes in on a three-match win streak at No. 6 singles.
Doubles have the Vandals at 13-10 overall with Oliveira and Ke Syuan Jhang at 5-4 for No. 1 doubles. Huchet and Jayanne Palma have gone 4-2 at No. 2 doubles with a host of players at No. 3 with Saffron Dowse and Andrea Redondo unbeaten at No. 3 doubles.
Hope International Royals
The Royals will play the second match of the day Saturday for the 'Eaters. The NAIA school comes in at 2-7 with wins over Division III schools. They've taken on UC Riverside losing, 4-0, to start the season.
The seven-player roster for Hope International is led by the junior duo of Mexican Carolina Barrios and Australian Julia Ramos.
CSUN Matadors
The Matadors end the weekend with a Big West contest Sunday morning. CSUN is 5-3 overall having played at home for nearly a month now before traveling to Cal State Fullerton and UCI this week. CSUN is 1-1 in Big West play losing at UC Davis before sweeping UC San Diego. The Matadors have won the last three in the series with UCI last winning, 4-3, at CSUN in 2017.
CSUN's top players are Russia redshirt senior Ekaterina Repina and Taiwanese senior Jolene Coetzee playing Nos. 1 and 2 singles. Repina is 3-1 at No. 1 and one of five Matadors with winning singles marks. Doubles is boiled down to four pairs with Coetzee and Ana Isabel Fraile Toboso at 5-2 for No. 1 doubles. The Matadors and Anteaters matched up a few times in Fall Tournaments with CSUN winning two of three doubles meetings and three of five singles contests.
