SPOKANE, Wash. - The UC Irvine women's distance medley relay team established a school record to highlight the first day of the MPSF Indoor Championships Friday at The Podium.
In their first DMR of the season,
Cathy Salazar-Gasca (3:31.95),
Amari Fraser (57.69),
Emma McCarthy (2:14.50) and
Anna Vogtmann (5:03.27) combined for a time of 11:46.87. They beat a 16-year old school record by nearly six seconds.
Reyna Johnson had a top-three finish in the long jump with a lifetime-best 18-04.5, climbing four spots into a tie for second in program history.
Johnson and Fraser also moved on to tomorrow's 60m hurdle final. Johnson had the seventh-fastest qualifying time at 8.92 seconds, while Fraser ran a personal-best 8.94 to finish eighth in the prelims.
Aryel Coats scored in the 200m, leading four Anteaters in the event with a season-best 25.15. That mark puts her at No. 5 on UCI's all-time charts. Coats also narrowly missed out on advancing in the 60m where she came in ninth at 7.83, just .01 seconds behind the last qualifier.
Hannah Chau placed fourth overall in her 5,000-meter season debut, clocking in at 17:05.76, while
Sameen Andar (17:33.53) added an eighth-place showing.
Phoebe Roach registered a season-best 10-06.75 in the pole vault, which ranks fifth in indoor school history.
Kassidy Sani was also the Anteaters' top finisher in the weight throw with a toss of 46-01.5.
Chaselyn Amos scored in the pentathlon, coming in seventh with 2,639 points.
Shaelyn Amos was also 10th (2,475), while
Kayla Rodriguez was 11th (2,461).
UC Irvine is back in action at The Podium tomorrow for the second and final day of the MPSF Indoor Championships.
