LIHUE, Kaua'i - The UC Irvine men's golf team dropped to 16th place after the second round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate Friday at The Ocean Course at Hokuala.
The Anteaters fell eight spots in the standings after combining for a 5-count-4 total of 307. They will enter Saturday's final round with a team score of 596 (289-307).
No. 27 Arizona maintained its lead on the field as its score of 552 (275-277) is three strokes ahead of 38th-ranked New Mexico (281-274). Cal's Aaron Du is the individual leader at 11-under 133 (66-67).
Nathan Irwin still leads UCI, but was unable to keep the momentum from a strong opening round as he fell into a tie for 60th with a 36-hole score of 148 (69-79).
Darien Zhao is also tied for 76th at 150 (73-77), while
Henry Fitzhugh is tied for 84th with a two-round total of 151 (75-76).
Kolbe Irei (152) and
Johnny Bai (153) rounded out UC Irvine's lineup in 87th and 90th, respectively. Bai is the only 'Eater who improved on his first round score as he carded a team-best 75 in the second round.
UC Irvine wraps up action at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate tomorrow with the final round set for an 8:30 a.m. (HT)/10:30 a.m. (PT) shotgun start.
