Alexander Highlights Day 1 of Don Kirby Invite

The UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team got out to a strong start at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational, led by Alexis Alexander in the 600m Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
 
Alexander posted a top-five finish with a personal-record 1:36.97. Her time is the fastest by an Anteater since 2017, and puts her at No. 3 in school history. Emma McCarthy also clocked in at 1:39.29, which ranks seventh on UCI's all-time charts.
 
Deandra Tyler notched a lifetime-best 49-05 in the weight throw as she moved up two spots to No. 6 in program history. Kassidy Sani also cracked the top-10 with a personal-best 46-04.75 (9th).
 
Zani Meaders led the 'Eaters in the unseeded 200m race, crossing the finish line in 25.21 seconds to place 27th out of 102 competitors. Aryel Coats was 49th (25.63), while Mikaela Rosario (26.43), Kayla Rodriguez (26.84) and Chaselyn Amos (27.26) all established season bests.
 
Hannah Chau had a top-10 finish in her first 3000m of the season, clocking in at 10:17.85 (8th), while Sameen Andar made her indoor collegiate debut with a time of 10:40.68.
 
Reyna Johnson also competed in the long jump (17-04.75).
 
UC Irvine returns to the Albuquerque Convention Center tomorrow for the second and final day of the Don Kirby Elite Invitational.
