IRVINE, Calif. – UC Irvine middle blocker
Onye Ofoegbu was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Pacific South Region team.
It is the 15
th time an Anteater player has been named to an AVCA All-Region team and the first since Kristen Winkler in 2012.
Ofoegbu, who is a two-time first team All-Big West honoree, is ranked 30th in the country in total blocks (143) and 37
th in block average with a 1.28 mark. The middle blocker ranks 43
rd nationally and second in the Big West in hitting percentage (.372). She lead the Anteaters in kills 11 times in 2022, hitting over .500 seven times. Ofoegbu had at least one block in every match, posting five or more 15 times with a career-high nine block assists in a three-set match versus DePaul. She had a season-high 20 kills at Cal Poly, while hitting .548. The junior was second on the team in aces with 24.
Ofoegbu's 128 block assists this season rank fifth in the UCI season records and her 312 career block assists are fifth most all-time.
