'Eaters Head South for San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic

IRVINE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's tennis team continues its fall season this weekend as it heads south for the second annual San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic, Oct. 7-9.
 
The four-team tournament will be held at The Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center. The Anteaters are set to square off against opponents from the University of Denver, Navy and the University of San Diego. Action gets underway Friday with doubles at 9:30 a.m., while matches on Saturday and Sunday will begin at 9 a.m.
 
USD and the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis launched the first SDVTC event last November.
 
Graduate transfer Enrique Luque Rico, senior Matthew Sah and sophomores Noah Zamora and Brandon Park will represent UC Irvine this weekend.
 
Zamora is coming off an appearance in the prequalifying singles draw at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The 2022 Big West co-Freshman of the Year went 2-1, advancing to the Round of 64.
 
Sah, the Anteaters' active overall doubles wins leader at 33, will be making his season debut on Friday. Transfers Luque Rico and Park are also set to make their UCI debuts. Luque Rico played three seasons at Pepperdine where he was a 2022 All-West Coast Conference selection, while Park spent the last two years at Pacific.
 
UC Irvine had one of its best seasons in recent history last year, going 17-7 overall, winning the Big West Championship and making the program's 12th NCAA Tournament appearance. The 'Eaters finished the 2022 campaign ranked 67th in the nation.
