ITA Southwest Regional Draws

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's tennis team completed one round of doubles and two rounds of singles on the first day of the ITA Southwest Regional Championship Thursday at Barnes Tennis Center.
 
Alyssia Fossorier and Larissa Teramura led the Anteaters with straight-set singles victories in the opening round. Fossorier took down fellow Big West member Megan Tagaloa of Cal State Fullerton, 6-2, 6-3, while Teramura upended Grand Canyon's Aline Buhr, 6-4, 6-4.
 
The two 'Eaters were unable to pull off the upset against tough opponents in the Round of 64 with Fossorier falling to Salma Ziouti (Arizona) and Teramura coming up short against 44th-ranked Janice Tjen of Pepperdine.
 
Cydney Yamamoto, Haily Huynh, Nour Khayat, Jenna Schlatter and Carolyna Fowler also fell in the Round of 128. Schlatter was up 2-0 in her match but had to retire due to injury.
 
UCI will be back in action with consolation matches tomorrow.
