EUGENE, Ore. -
Junior Josh Farmer wrapped up his first NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship appearance Thursday at Hayward Field, finishing 16th in the decathlon to earn second-team All-America honors.

Farmer compiled 3,240 points on day two, and concluded the 10-event competition with a total score of 7,206.

"Josh had a very good run over the last two days, and competed well across the board with an unfortunate fall in the 110 hurdles to start day two," said head coach Jeff Perkins. "The decathlon can be very humbling at times and he most definitely learned that here at the NCAA meet. We are so proud of who he is and what he's been able to accomplish, and look forward to our trip to NCAA's 365 days from now."

In the final event of the grueling two-day meet, Farmer dug deep to run a collegiate personal-record 4:40.37 in the 1500m. That was good for ninth in the field, and added 678 points to his overall score.

In the pole vault, the San Diego native also tied for ninth, and picked up 763 points. He easily cleared his opening height before moving to 14-01.75, where he missed on his first two tries. Facing elimination, Farmer stepped up under the pressure, getting over the bar on his third and final attempt at that height. He went on to close out the competition with a best of 14-09.5.

Farmer added 15th-place finishes in both the discus (123-05) and javelin (160-09). In the 110H, which was the first event of the day, Farmer stumbled over the final hurdle, but picked himself up to finish the race and put points on the board.

Farmer is the fourth Anteater in program history to compete in the decathlon at the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships. Earlier this year, he established a personal-record and NCAA qualifying mark of 7,648 points in an individual victory at the APU Franson Classic Multis. That ranks second in program history and held as the top score in the Big West Conference this season.
