LA QUINTA, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team closed out the 2021 Big West Championships in seventh place Tuesday at La Quinta Country Club.

The Anteaters concluded the three-day tournament with a team score of 902 (311-291-300).

Long Beach State (858) won the team title with a seven-stroke victory over UC Davis, while the Aggies' Lucas Carper was the individual champion at 7-under 209.

Freshman
Darien Zhao was UCI's top performer, tying for 11th in his Big West Championship debut. Zhao continued his ascent up the leaderboard, climbing five more spots after carding his second-straight below par round at 1-under 71. The San Diego native finished with a 54-hole total of 218 (79-68-71).

Graduate student
Jonathan Kang had his best round of the tournament with an even-par 72. He had six birdies on the day, including four over his final five holes. Kang, who has two career top-10 Big West finishes, tied for 22nd at 224 (75-77-72).

Nathan Irwin tied for 31st with a three-round total of 232, while freshman
Henry Fitzhugh (234) and junior
Matt Gunson (239) were 34th and 41st, respectively.
