CHANDLER, Ariz. - The UC Irvine men's golf team finished 14th in a loaded field at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic Tuesday at Whirlwind Golf Club.

The Anteaters placed ahead of UCLA, and fellow Big West members Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara with a 54-hole season-best 871 (285-298-288).

No. 28 San Diego State took first in a 23-team field that featured six programs ranked among the top-75 in the nation. The Aztecs claimed the victory with a total score of 831. They were six strokes ahead of runner-up TCU. Stanford's Barclay Brown (202) fired a 7-under 65 in Tuesday's final round to secure individual medalist honors.

For the second tournament in a row, junior
Nathan Irwin (71-72-74) and freshman
Darien Zhao (72-75-70) tied for the team lead as they both carded a 217 to place 39th overall. Zhao had UCI's best round of the day, firing a season-best 2-under 70 to jump 14 spots in the standings.

Graduate student
Jonathan Kang had his second below-par round of the tournament, shooting a 1-under 71 through the final 18 holes. He also had a season-best 69 (-3) in the opening round, and finished with a total of 218 (69-78-71) to tie for 48th.

Freshman
Kolbe Irei matched his season best with a 1-over 73 to tie for 79th (224). Classmate
Henry Fitzhugh also tied for 106th (231).

UC Irvine will be back in action next week at the 74th Western Intercollegiate, April 12-14, with GOLF Channel providing live coverage from Pasatiempo Golf Club. It is the Anteaters' final tune-up before the Big West Championships, May 2-4.
