SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - UC Irvine men's golf moved up one spot in the standings to finish 11th after Wednesday's final round of the 74th Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club.

The Anteaters concluded the tournament with a 6-count-5 total of 1,119 (371-376-372). Seventh-ranked Pepperdine took home the team title at 4-under 1,046, finishing 11 strokes ahead of No. 37 Stanford.

Graduate student
Jonathan Kang was UCI's top finisher, tying for 40th with a 54-hole score of 219 (72-72-75). Kang got out to a shaky start in the final round, making the turn at 7-over, but settled down on the back nine where he had two birdies and no bogeys.

Juniors
Nathan Irwin (73-76-75) and
Matt Gunson (76-74-74) tied for 61st with identical scores of 224. Irwin closed out the tournament with an eagle on the par-5, 502-yard ninth hole.

Darien Zhao tied for 71st (227), while classmate
Henry Fitzhugh tied for 79th (233).

Kolbe Irei carded a season-best 70 (E) in Wednesday's final round. It was also the Anteaters' best round of the three-day tournament. Irei came in 85th overall (238).

Puwit Anupansuebsai (San Diego State), Joe Highsmith (Pepperdine) and Carson Lundell (BYU) finished in a three-way tie for first at 5-under 205, with Highsmith winning the playoff for individual medalist honors.
