Josh Farmer won the decathlon at the Franson Classic Multis with a personal-record 7,648 points Saturday at Cougar Athletic Stadium.
Â
In his first decathlon as an Anteater, and first since 2019, Farmer posted the second-best point total in school history, sitting behind only 1978 national champion Mauricio Bardales. Farmer's mark also ranks fourth in all of NCAA Division I this season.
Â
"We are very proud of Josh and his hard work as this is a testament to that," said UCI head coach
Jeff Perkins. "He really put together a great two days of consistent effort as that is what the decathlon is all about."
Â
Farmer, who entered the day in second place, took home the title after scoring 3,508 points through the final five events. He established three personal records and had four top-two finishes.
Â
The San Diego native began the day in the 110m hurdles where he clocked in at 15.33 while running into a headwind of 1.2 meters per second. He then registered the top mark in the discus, improving his lifetime best by five feet with a toss of 130-08.
Â
Farmer was also the runner-up in the pole vault and javelin with personal-bests of 15-01 and 167-11, respectively. He then closed out the meet with a time of 4:45.77 in the 1500m.
