'Eaters Compete at Jim Bush Legends Invitational

The UC Irvine men's track & field team had 13 student-athletes compete in 11 events Wednesday at UCLA's Jim Bush Legends Invitational.
 
On the track, freshman Jarel Sayles was the runner-up in the 110m hurdles with a personal-record 14.49. He was only one-tenth of a second shy of cracking UCI's all-time top-10 in his second collegiate meet. Junior Josh Farmer added a lifetime-best 15.02 to come in fifth.
 
Senior Seth Enochs (11.04) and junior Malcolm Overbaugh (48.96) also crossed the finish line with PRs in the 100m and 400m, respectively. Freshman Eric Parker made his collegiate debut in the 400m (49.57), while sophomore Jake Burns competed in the 100m (11.80) and 200m (23.87).
 
In the relays, Parker, Burns, Sayles and Enochs clocked in at 42.80 seconds in the 4x100. Junior Miles Duncan, Overbaugh, Sayles and Parker also ran a 4x400 season-best 3:18.18.
 
In the field events, Farmer claimed runner-up honors in the long jump with a wind-aided personal-record 23-01.75. Enochs wasn't far behind in third (23-00.75).
 
Senior Jack Pickard took second in the javelin (195-07), and junior Kyle Tsu notched a second-place finish in the discus (168-11). Tsu was also third in the shot put with a season-best 57-00.25, while junior Noah Holm came in fourth (53-11).
 
Freshmen Jacob Hawkins (149-08) and Justin Willingham (138-10) both saw improvements in the hammer throw in their second collegiate meet.
 
UC Irvine will be back in action tomorrow, hosting the Anteater Distance Twilight starting at 4 p.m.
