UC Irvine in Good Position After First Day at Valley Hi CC

ELK GROVE, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's golf team sits in fourth place with a couple holes remaining in the second round of the Sacramento State Invitational at Valley Hi Country Club.
 
After finishing the opening round in a tie for seventh at 293, the Anteaters moved up three spots when play was halted due to darkness.

Long Beach State currently leads the 14-team field at 18-under. LBSU's Clay Seeber (-9) also holds a two-stroke advantage on the individual leaderboard.
 
Junior Nathan Irwin leads the 'Eaters in a tie for eighth. Irwin started the tournament with a season-best 72 (E), and recorded his eighth birdie of the day to get to 3-under with two holes remaining in the second round. He also had his first collegiate eagle on the par-5, 479-yard fourth hole.
 
Graduate student Jonathan Kang is tied for 21st. After registering a first-round 74 (+2), Kang has been on the move, firing five birdies over his last nine holes to get to even-par.
 
Freshman Henry Fitzhugh carded a season-best 1-under 71 to tie for seventh after the first 18, but has dropped in the standings as he is currently 4-over in the second round.
 
Junior Matt Gunson sits in a tie for 53rd (+5), while classmate Ethan Han is tied for 84th.
 
The second round of the Sacramento State Invitational will resume Tuesday morning, with the final round to begin immediately after its conclusion.
