IRVINE, Calif. -- After a year of conference-only opponents, UC Irvine returns to its aggressive scheduling ways with a road-heavy January. The 2022 campaign will feature iconic opponents from across the country.

Flying to Chicago on December 31, UC Irvine will ring in the New Year with MIVA's Loyola and Lewis January 1 & 2.

Later that week, The Anteaters head north to face off against Lindenwood (MIVA) and Stanford (MPSF) in Burnham Pavilion (Jan. 7 & 8).

Two home matches in The Bren Events Center, Harvard out of the EIVA on Jan. 12 and a rematch with Stanford on Jan.14, give way to the longest rest period in January, six days without a match, before UC Irvine heads to Provo, UT to face BYU (Jan. 21 & 22).

"Everyone at UC Irvine knows the competitive objective," head coach David Kniffin commented. "It is an aggressive January because it is an aggressive objective. We need road time, together time. And we need to be tested early."

In the final days of January and on into February, UC Irvine will play home and away with a gauntlet of MPSF foes and iconic opponents with rich histories of epic matches: USC, UCLA and Pepperdine. All six matches occur in a 16-day period (Jan.26 – Feb. 11).

The second half of February and first days of March features three matches, Concordia (twice) and UC Santa Cruz as UC Irvine regroups for Big West Conference play.

"Big West teams set the tone for competitive excellence across the country," Kniffin said. "Top to bottom, it is the most competitive conference in the country. No nights off. If iron sharpens iron, the team that comes out of the Big West will be as sharp as it gets."

Conference play begins with Black & Blue rival Long Beach State. The Beach and Anteaters will battle at the Bren (Mar. 10) then head to the Walter Pyramid (Mar. 11).

UC Irvine continues to exchange home and away matches with UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and CSUN before wrapping up Big West Conference play with Hawaii (Apr. 15 & 16) in The Bren Center.

The 2022 Big West Championship returns to Hawaii (Apr. 21-23).
