Collin Welp Brings Home Big West Player Of The Week Honor

| By:
IRVINE, Calif. -- Forward Collin Welp earned UC Irvine's first Big West Player of the Week honor after leading the Anteaters to a 69-64 victory over Santa Clara.

The senior had a team-high 17 points on 5-8 shooting from the field and 6-8 from the line. He recorded the team's first double-double of the season, grabbing 10 rebounds. The Seattle, Wash. native also added three assists in the victory.

UCI trailed by seven with five minutes remaining before Welp started the comeback with a pair of free throws as UCI closed out the game on a 14-2 run. The UCI victory snapped Santa Clara's 24 consecutive home non-conference win streak with the Anteater defense holding the Broncos without a field goal in the final 5:21 of the game.

It is Welp's third career Big West weekly honor.

Welp leads the Anteaters with a 14.0 scoring and 6.6 rebounding average.

UCI, winners of four straight, will take on Bethesda Friday (Dec. 3) at 7:00 p.m. in the Bren Events Center.
