Anteaters Post Personal Bests at Beach Opener

LONG BEACH, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's track & field team had a handful of personal bests at the season-opening Beach Opener, hosted by Long Beach State at Jack Rose Track.
 
On Friday, junior transfer Richard Atthowe won his flight and came in ninth overall in the javelin with a lifetime-best 158-03. Freshman Jose Cisneros also had a top-20 finish in the hammer (157-03).
 
The throws squad continued to shine on Saturday, starting with sophomore Kyle Tsu taking fifth in the shot put (57-02.25). Sophomore Noah Holm wasn't far behind with a personal-record 56-10.75. Holm cracked UCI's all-time top-10 with the fifth-best mark in school history. Tsu already ranks third with a PR 57-11.25.
 
In the discus, Holm was fourth with another personal-best 173-08, which is tied for eighth in program history. Tsu came in ninth (164-02), while Cisneros was 17th (145-04).
 
The Anteaters also did well in the jumps with freshman Tobi Adegoke placing seventh in the long jump (22-02.25), and sophomore Josh Farmer taking ninth in the pole vault (13-10.5).
 
On the track, the 4x100 relay got the 'Eaters off to a strong start as senior Andres Woodruff, freshman Jake Burns, senior Evan Singletary and junior Seth Enochs clocked in at 41.23 seconds to place fourth.
 
Burns also led UCI in the 100m with a wind-aided 10.69 to come in 14th in a field of 52 athletes. Fellow freshman Drew Pickett added a wind-aided 11.13, while Enochs clocked a personal-record 11.16.
 
Pickett also competed in the 110m hurdles in his collegiate debut, finishing 11th overall (15.10).
 
Sophomore Malcolm Overbaugh was 10th in the 400m, running a personal-best 49.89. Woodruff was right on his heels in 11th (50.08). Sophomore Lucas Anotado added a lifetime-best 52.11.

Adegoke placed among the top-20 in the 200m with a wind-aided 22.07.
 
Senior Sam Ayala paced the distance crew with a fifth-place showing in the 3000m. He crossed the finish line in 8:32.76, just .07 seconds off his personal record. Sophomore Sebastian Bautista was also 19th with a PR 8:55.50.
 
In the 800m, sophomore Omar Adel established a personal-best 1:58.94, while freshman Jason Messner clocked in at 2:01.05. Freshman Michael McCarthy also competed in the 1500m (4:15.74).
 
Woodruff, Farmer, Adegoke and Overbaugh closed out the day with a third-place showing in the 4x400 relay (3:17.70).
 
UC Irvine will be back in action next weekend at the Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton, March 13-14.
