UC Irvine Takes Third at Sacramento State Invitational

ELK GROVE, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's golf team carded a final-round 290 for a top-three showing at the Sacramento State Invitational Tuesday at Valley Hi Country Club.
 
It was the Anteaters' best round of the tournament as they combined for a 54-hole total of 897 (312-295-290). UCI was third overall, coming in behind team champion Cal State Fullerton (866) and runner-up CSUN (889).
 
Senior Jonathan Kang led the 'Eaters with his second top-10 finish in three spring tournaments. Kang was steady through the final 18 with two birdies and two bogeys for an even-par 72. He moved up two spots in the standings to tie for sixth at 5-over 221 (75-74-72).
 
Senior Anthony Truong tied for 12th with a three-round score of 224 (76-74-74). On Tuesday, he eagled the par-5, 528-yard eighth hole.
 
Senior Ramiz Jamal tied for 23rd at 227 (79-73-75), while sophomore Ethan Han continued to climb the leaderboard into a tie for 28th with a season-best 1-over 73. Han registered an overall score of 229 (82-74-73).
 
Sophomore Parker Lestz also jumped 10 spots into a tie for 33rd (230) after firing off a collegiate career-best 1-under 71. It was the Anteaters' top round of the tournament.
 
The Titans' Derek Castillo was individual medalist at 1-under 215, finishing one stroke ahead of Mats Ege (CSUN).
 
UC Irvine will be back in action next weekend at the GCU Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz., March 13-14.
