UCI Drops in Standings After Round Two in Hawaii

LIHUE, Kaua'i -
The UC Irvine men's golf team had a tough second round, shooting a 302 to drop 10 spots in the standings Friday at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate.
 
Through 36 holes, the Anteaters are 14th with a total of 591 (289-302). They are only one stroke back of Long Beach State and two behind 14th-ranked North Carolina.
 
No. 10 Texas A&M took over the team lead at 7-under 569 (288-281), while No. 15 BYU is right on the Aggies' heels at 5-under 571 (287-284). No. 40 New Mexico is also third (573). The tournament features a loaded 21-team field with seven programs ranked among Golfstat's top-50, including four in the top-15.
 
Senior Anthony Truong and sophomore Parker Lestz led the 'Eaters on Friday as both carded a 1-over 73. It was a season-low tying round for Lestz. Truong and Lestz also had identical rounds of 74 on Thursday to sit in a tie for 37th at 3-over 147.
 
After starting the day with a birdie, senior Jonathan Kang was unable to carry the momentum forward, finishing with a 79 (+7). Kang dropped from the top of the leaderboard into a tie for 51st with a two-round total of 148 (69-79).
 
Senior Chris Casey is also tied for 76th at 150 (73-77), while senior Ramiz Jamal is 96th (153).

Ignacio Arcaya (New Mexico), Sam Choi (New Mexico), Segundo Oliva Pinto (UNCW) and Tommy Kuhl (Illinois) are tied for first on the individual leaderboard at 4-under 140.
 
UCI will look to get back on track when it returns to Wailua Golf Course for the final round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate on Saturday, Feb. 22.
