The Anteaters, who are co-hosting the two-day tournament along with Cal State Fullerton, shot a 302 to start their spring season. They were 11 strokes behind San Francisco, which leads the 17-team field (291).

Ramiz Jamal carded an opening-round 72 to tie for ninth. He got out to a strong start with three birdies through the front nine, but came back down to even-par with bogeys on Nos. 10, 11 and 14.

Anthony Truong recorded a 75 (+3) to tie for 18th, while senior
Jonathan Kang tied for 36th (77). Sophomore

Chris Casey (79) rounded out UCI's 5-count-4 lineup in 44th and 59th, respectively.

Parker Lestz led the Anteaters' individual contingent, closing out the first round at 2-over 74 to tie for 12th. Lestz finished strong with birdies on three of his final six holes.

Trueman Park was tied for 44th (78).

The second round of the OC Collegiate Classic will continue Tuesday at 8:30 a.m., with the third round to begin immediately after its conclusion.
