SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
Sophomore Seth Enochs and redshirt freshman Kyle Tsu each had a top-three finish in their respective events to lead the UC Irvine men's track & field team on the first day of the Big West Championships Friday at Pauley Track Facility.

Enochs claimed runner-up honors in the long jump with a wind-aided personal-record 25-04. It was the second-straight meet in which he surpassed the 25-foot mark.

In his first-ever Big West Championships, Tsu took third in the shot put with a toss of 57-10.5. He was just under an inch shy of his season best and came in behind only a pair of seniors from CSUN and Long Beach State.

On the track, junior Sam Ayala had the second-fastest 1500m qualifying time, clocking in at 3:55.91. He moves on to tomorrow's final along with senior Ashton Garcia, who was 10th at 3:58.30.

Senior Asa Allen advanced out of the 110m hurdle prelims for the second year in a row as he finished eighth at 14.54 while running into a 1.6 meter per second headwind.

Senior Paul Resong was an automatic qualifier out of the first preliminary heat of the 400m, running a season-best 48.24.

Junior Andres Woodruff rounded out UCI's qualifiers as he was sixth in the 400m hurdles (54.10).

The Anteaters return to Pauley Track Facility on Saturday for the second and final day of the Big West Championships.
