Men's Golf Takes Eighth at Redhawk Invitational

The UC Irvine men's golf team carded a final-round 284 on Tuesday to move up two spots for an eighth-place finish at the Redhawk Invitational.
 
The Anteaters' 850 (283-283-284) at the par-71 Chambers Bay Golf Course was their best three-round score of the season. They were just two strokes back of Northern Colorado.
 
No. 41 UCLA claimed the title, leading the 18-team field with an 815 (269-268-278).
 
Junior Anthony Truong continued his steady play with an even-par 71 over the final 18 holes. Truong finished in a tie for 21st with a total of 210 (69-70-71).
 
Freshman Matt Gunson had the best round of his collegiate career as he fired off seven birdies to card a 3-under 68. He tied for 44th at 215 (71-76-68).
 
Junior Ramiz Jamal also tied for 55th with a 54-hole score of 216 (71-72-73), while classmate Chris Casey tied for 77th at 220 (72-71-77).
 
Freshman Nathan Irwin rounded out UCI's lineup in a tie for 86th (222).
 
The Bruins' Hidetoshi Yoshihara was individual medalist at 13-under 200.
 
Up next for UC Irvine is the 73rd annual Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, April 15-17. The three-day tournament will be televised by Golf Channel.
