SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team remained in 11th place after the second round of the Western Intercollegiate Tuesday at Pasatiempo Golf Club.

The Anteaters made a three-stroke improvement from Monday with a 6-count-5 total of 369. They kept themselves within striking distance of a top-10 finish in an elite field with a 36-hole score of 741 (372-369). UCI will enter tomorrow's final round four strokes back of Washington and eight behind San Diego State.

Host San Jose State is still in first at 699 (346-353), but No. 16 Stanford is right on the Spartans' heels with an even-par 700.

Ramiz Jamal continued to lead the 'Eaters as he carded a 71 (+1) to move up eight spots into a tie for 23rd. All three of his birdies on the day came on the back nine where he was 2-under. Jamal owns a two-round score of 143 (72-71).

Anthony Truong shot a 75 to drop into a tie for 50th. He now sits at 7-over-par for the tournament (147).

Chris Casey made the biggest jump for UCI, climbing 17 spots in the standings with a 71. He fired off a team-best five birdies for a nine-stroke improvement from the first round. Casey is currently 62nd with a 36-hole score of 150.

Nathan Irwin were both even at the turn before closing out the round at 6-over 76. Kang is tied for 69th, while Irwin is tied for 76th.

Matt Gunson is also tied for 73rd at 153 (74-79).
