Men's Track & Field Finishes Strong at UCI Spring Collegiate Classic

IRVINE, Calif. - The men's track & field team wrapped up action on the second and final day of the UC Irvine Spring Break Collegiate Classic with eight top-three finishes Saturday at Anteater Stadium.
 
Junior Andres Woodruff, sophomore Seth Enochs, senior Asa Allen and junior Evan Singletary kicked off the track events with a win in the 4x100 relay. Woodruff and Enochs kept the 'Eaters close before Allen made up some ground on the third leg. Singletary then made the final push to edge Utah State at 41.54 seconds.
 
Prior to the 4x100, Enochs defended his individual title in the long jump. On his first attempt in the final round, the Yucca Valley, Calif., native went for a personal-record 24-07 to pass Leaugen Fray-Benoit of Utah State in the standings. Enochs improved on his No. 5 mark in program history.
 
In the throws, redshirt freshman Kyle Tsu took fourth in the shot put with a season-best 55-02.75. That mark ranks eighth on UCI's all-time charts. Tsu added a top-10 performance in the discus (162-11).
 
Allen, senior Paul Resong, junior Brennan Doyle and Woodruff combined for a runner-up showing in the 4x400 (3:14.89).
 
Doyle added a second-place finish in the 400m, clocking in at 48.45 seconds.
 
Allen took second in his first 110m hurdle race of the season (14.77). Junior Alan Tantiwassadakran wasn't far behind in third with a lifetime-best 14.93.
 
Woodruff came in third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.08.
 
Junior Sam Ayala led a trio of 'Eaters in the 1500m, placing third overall with a personal-record 3:51.33. Junior Hector Garcia (3:54.49) and senior Ashton Garcia (3:54.79) also finished among the top-10.
 
Sophomore Michelangelo Zavala (1:59.63) and Ashton Garcia (1:59.86) were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 800m.
 
Up next, UC Irvine will make its way to the Inland Empire for the UC Riverside Spring Classic, March 22-23.
