UC Irvine Wraps up Action in Hawaii

LIHUE, Hawaii -
The UC Irvine men's golf team recorded a final-round 290 to finish 18th in a loaded John A. Burns Intercollegiate field that featured eight programs ranked among the top-50 Saturday at Wailua Golf Course.
 
The Anteaters were four strokes behind Washington State with an overall score of 882. No. 11 Arizona State claimed the team title at 840. The Sun Devils were followed by No. 20 Texas A&M (843), No. 2 Duke (845) and No. 32 North Carolina (846).
 
Junior Ramiz Jamal had his best round of the tournament, carding a 2-under 70. He had three birdies and only one bogey, which came on his final hole. Jamal finished with a total of 213 (71-72-70) to tie for 22nd.
 
Junior Anthony Truong also shot a 70 through the final 18. Along with his team-best 69 on Friday, Truong jumped over 20 spots in the standings after the first round, coming in a tie for 35th at 1-under 215 (76-69-70).
 
Junior Chris Casey tied for 79th at 224 (76-73-75). He had a team-high four birdies on Saturday. Junior Jonathan Kang also tied for 99th with a 54-hole score of 231 (81-75-75), while freshman Nathan Irwin tied for 104th (233). Irwin had his best round of the tournament with a 3-over 75.
 
BYU's Peter Keust (206) was individual medalist as he beat Walker Lee of Texas A&M by one stroke.
 
The 'Eaters will be back in action at the Sacramento State Invitational, March 4-5.
