SEATTLE - Senior Barbara Coward broke the school record in the weight throw for the second time this season to highlight the first day of the MPSF Championships for the UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team Friday at Dempsey Indoor.
 
In Flight 2, Coward threw for a personal-record 57-10.5 on her third attempt, securing her spot in the finals where she went on to unleash a toss of 58-04.75. Coward improved on her previous school record by nearly a foot as she came into today's meet with the program's top mark at 57-05.75.
 
Junior Brianna Villanueva wasn't far behind in 11th place, recording a distance of 55-01. Senior Alison Meegan added a lifetime-best 53-01.75 to come in 15th.
 
On the track, senior Hope Bushnell was 19th in the 200m with a time of 25.11, while she placed 24th in the 60m dash at 7.69 seconds. Senior Mychal Robinson also took 17th in the 60m hurdles (8.66).
 
Freshmen Natalie Ewe, Zani Meaders, Destiny Whitaker and Hannah Chau combined to run the fifth-fastest distance medley relay in program history. The quartet clocked in at a season-best 12:11.96.
