RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's cross country team finished seventh at the Big West Championships Saturday at UCR Ag/Ops Course.

The 'Eaters had a young contingent of five runners competing in the conference meet.

"Our guys got the experience and now know what this conference is about, and what it takes to finish in the top-five as a team," UCI distance coach
Casey Kear said. "That is our goal moving forward, to come back next year, have a much better team performance and take a step in the right direction."

Sebastian Bautista led the Anteater pack in 33rd as he completed the 8000-meter course in 26:07.62. Sophomore
Christian Hernandez was the next UC Irvine runner to cross the finish line, coming in 42nd at 26:38.53.

Omar Adel added a personal-record 27:10.20 (48th), while senior
Jhamani Long (27:10.64) and freshman
Jason Messner (30:50.74) rounded out the group.
Cal Poly won the team title, while the Mustangs' Jake Ritter was the individual champion at 23:43.69.
UC Irvine will be back in action at the NCAA West Regional in Colfax, Washington, on Friday, Nov. 15.
