SAN DIEGO, Calif. -Â The UC Irvine men's tennis team had another strong showing in doubles on the second day of the Aztec Fall Invitational hosted by San Diego State.

The 'Eaters competed in two rounds of doubles and one round of singles on Saturday.

Freshman
Ali Amiri and sophomore
Aaron Bailey claimed the Flight B Doubles title, finishing the tournament with a 3-0 record. The duo opened the day with a 6-2 semifinal win over SDSU's pairing of Jules Auffray/Daniel Traxler. They then edged teammates
Antoine Barthe and
Mike Mkrtchian, 7-5, in the championship match. Barthe/Mkrtchian advanced to the final with a 6-2 triumph over Pawell Jankowiak (Pepperdine)/Nick Nienhaus (SDCC).

In Flight A, senior
Daniel Gealer and junior
Jeremy Merville cruised to a 6-2 victory over Grand Canyon's Freddie Grant/Julian Mueller. The Anteaters then dropped a 6-3 decision to Eric Hahn/Max Wild of UCLA in the semifinals of the main draw.

Mark Peneff and freshman
Matthew Sah moved on to Sunday's consolation final with a 7-5 win over Pepperdine's Evan Shamilan/Robert Shelton and a 6-2 triumph against David Norfeldt/Marvin Schaber (San Diego).

In the Aztec Singles Flight, junior
Mateusz Smolicki dispatched Grant (GCU), 6-0, 6-2, to advance to tomorrow's consolation final.

In the State Flight, Sah was handed his first defeat of the weekend, coming up short against Auffray (SDSU), 4-6, 6-3, 6-0. Mkrtchian was victorious in his consolation semifinal, winning 6-2, 6-2, over Laurent Magne of GCU and will face Fraser Leslie (UCSD) in Sunday's consolation final.
Gealer, Peneff, Merville and Bailey also picked up singles wins in other consolation matches.
