'Eaters Move into Top-10 at Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational

STOCKTON, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's golf team shot a season-best 7-under 281 in the second round of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational to climb two spots in the standings Tuesday at The Reserve at Spanos Park.
 
The Anteaters, who tied for the second-best team score of the day, are now 10th overall with a two-round total of 581 (300-281). San Jose State remained in the lead at 563 (282-281), while fifth-ranked BYU (291-276) catapulted into second place, sitting four strokes behind the Spartans.
 
Senior Ramiz Jamal was one of three 'Eaters to finish the second round under par as he fired a 70 (-2), which marked a four-stroke improvement from yesterday. Jamal jumped 17 spots into a tie for 23rd with a 36-hole score of 144 (74-70).
 
Senior Jonathan Kang made the biggest leap, moving up from 61st to 31st in the individual standings (145). Kang, who had only one blemish on his scorecard, shot a 3-under 69, which was seven strokes better than his opening round. It was his fourth round below par, and second in the 60s this season.
 
Sophomore Trueman Park also made a seven-stroke improvement, carding a second-round 70 (-2). Park added to his team-leading birdie total with five more on Tuesday, including two on his final four holes. He is now tied for 45th (147).
 
Sophomore Matt Gunson also had five birdies on the day, finishing at even-par 72. He is tied for 57th (149). Sophomore Parker Lestz is tied for 61st with a 36-hole score of 150 (73-77).
 
San Jose State's Sean Yu (133) holds a three-stroke lead over Rhett Rasmussen of BYU and Michael Cliff of Fresno State heading into tomorrow's final round.
 
UC Irvine will be paired with Seattle U and Washington State on Wednesday. They will tee off from the 10th hole starting at 9:24 a.m.
