FRESNO, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's golf team concluded the Nick Watney Invitational with a final-round 287 Tuesday at Fort Washington Country Club.

The Anteaters finished their first tournament of the season in 12th place with a 54-hole score of 865 (296-282-287).

BYU (822) shot a tournament-best 268 in the third round to pull away with a five-stroke victory over Long Beach State (827). The Cougars' Peter Kuest and LBSU's Hunter Epson tied for first individually at 13-under 200. Epson eventually claimed individual medalist honors on the second playoff hole.

Ramiz Jamal was the Anteaters' top finisher as he tied for 27th with an even-par 213 (73-68-72). Sophomore
Matt Gunson also tied for 35th with a 54-hole score of 215 (71-73-71).

Jonathan Kang carded UCI's best round of the day at 1-under 70. After a tough first round on Monday morning, Kang settled in as he ended up climbing 45 spots in the standings to finish in a tie for 41st with a 3-over 216 (78-68-70).

Chris Casey tied for 74th at 222 (74-74-74), while sophomore
Parker Lestz tied for 88th at 229 (79-73-77).

UC Irvine will be back in action in a couple weeks when it heads to Simi Valley for the Bill Cullum Invitational, Oct. 14-15.
