UC Irvine Starts Strong at UW Invitational

The UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team got off to a strong start at the UW Invitational Friday evening at Dempsey Indoor.
 
The throwers led the way once again with junior Brianna Villanueva and senior Alison Meegan establishing personal records for the second-straight week. Villanueva saw an improvement of over a foot with a toss of 54-01.25, which was good for ninth place. Meegan was also 16th at 52-03.75. The duo remained at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, on UCI's all-time charts.
 
Senior Barbara Coward, who set a school record in the season opener last weekend, took seventh in the invitational section of the weight throw with a mark of 55-10.5.
 
On the track, senior Mychal Robinson was one of eight individuals to qualify for the 60m hurdle final as she won her preliminary heat in 8.62 seconds. She went on to finish third overall, clocking in at 8.63 in the final.
 
Senior Hope Bushnell was 16th out of 47 competitors in the 200m (25.48).
 
Freshmen Natalie Ewe and Zani Meaders teamed up with junior Brenda Dorantes and senior Megan Mirkhanian to complete the distance medley relay in 12:39.71.
 
UC Irvine continues action at the UW Invitational tomorrow, starting with the long jump at 10 a.m.
