'Eaters in 15th Through 36 Holes at Thunderbird Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. - The UC Irvine men's golf team sits in 15th place after the first two rounds of the Thunderbird Invitational at Arizona State's par-71 Karsten Golf Course.
 
UCI registered a 594 (296-298), and is three strokes behind Boise State.
 
No. 25 ASU and No. 27 UNLV both finished Saturday's action at 18-under 550 to lead the 17-team field that features eight programs ranked among the top-50 in the nation. The Sun Devils and Rebels are three strokes ahead of No. 3 Oklahoma, while No. 11 Baylor is in fourth (557), No. 32 Arizona is in fifth (562), and No. 1 Oklahoma State is in sixth (565).
 
Junior Ramiz Jamal leads the 'Eaters in 52nd place as he carded a 5-over 147 (75-72). Jamal jumped 11 spots after the second 18 where he had three birdies to help him record the squad's best round of the day (72).
 
Senior David Kim, who has been the Anteaters' top finisher in every tournament this year, will enter the final round in a tie for 63rd at 149. Kim started the day with a 2-over 73, but dropped 20 spots in the standings with a 76 (+5) in the second round.
 
Senior Jonathan Young and sophomore Jonathan Kang are also tied for 63rd with identical rounds of 74 (+3) and 75 (+4). Young had a team-best five birdies.  
 
Senior Ryan O'Connor wrapped up the afternoon in 75th place with a 36-hole score of 153 (76-77).
 
UNLV's Shintaro Ban and Colorado's Yannik Paul are tied at the top of the individual leaderboard at 9-under 133.
 
UC Irvine returns to Karsten Golf Course for the final 18 holes on Sunday, April 15. This is the Anteaters' final tournament before the Big West Championships.
