Box Score IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine women's tennis team got out to a good start but could not hold on, ultimately dropping a 4-3 decision to Toledo Thursday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

The Anteaters fall to 6-6 on the season while the Rockets improve to 9-3 overall.

"Toledo is a solid, tough team from top to bottom," said head coach Elizabeth Ferris. "We did an excellent job of putting ourselves in a position to win on every court. This was an exciting, high level match. We competed hard and came up with smart strategies. Unfortunately we made a few too many errors at critical times. Our games are going in the right direction and we are looking forward to our trip to Hawai'i! We will definitely fine tune our games and be ready."

UCI won the doubles point with victories at Nos. 1 and 2. The freshmen duo of Yulin Chen and Flora Amiri got things started defeating Toledo's Kendall-Woseley/Rodrigues, 7-5, on court two. Vivien Dvali and Stephanie Hazell clinched the point for the 'Eaters with a 6-4 win at the top spot.

The Rockets tied the game at one after Kokoro Chishaki defeated Amiri at the number four spot but Dvali put the 'Eaters back in the lead with a 6-3, 6-3 win on court three. Toledo jumped ahead with wins at No. two and six and clinched the match after Kendall-Woseley defeated Hazell at the top spot.

Chen closed out the match winning on court five, 6-4, 5-7, 10-8, but it wasn't enough as UCI suffered the narrow defeat.

The 'Eaters travel to Hawai'i for a doubleheader Saturday, March 10. UCI plays Big West opponent Hawai'i at 1 p.m. PST before facing Chaminade for a non-conference tilt at 4:30 p.m.
