Women's Tennis Matches Against Fairfield, Marist Canceled Today

| By:
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y, FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The UC Irvine women's tennis matches scheduled today against Fairfield and Marist have been canceled due to excessive rain.

"There was nothing easy about this trip," said head coach Elizabeth Ferris. "Whether it was the long flights, time zone changes, drives between matches, and tough competition. We threw them into the fire early and they responded with a level of toughness and grit that doesn't always come until later in the season. The entire team was ready for this and it shows in their scores. I'm also really proud of coach Perez. She did a fantastic job of leading her split squads. We are all looking forward to our next trip!"

The Anteaters will return home from their three-day east coast trip with a 4-1 record. UCI earned wins against Wagner, Monmouth, Drew and Sacred Heart.

"I really enjoyed this trip and its been a great way to start my senior year!" said Danielle Garrido. "The matches we played haven given us the opportunity to work on our games and team bonding that will help us in the future. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season!"

"The trip was a great experience and an awesome start to the year! It was good to get lot of match play early on so that we can figure out ways to improve our games. Overall we bonded well as a team and really applied what we've been doing in practice to our matches."

UCI will take a short break before embarking on a second trip out east to play five matches Oct. 19-21.
