Anteaters Tie for 10th at Bill Cullum Invitational

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's golf team moved up two spots into a tie for 10th on the final day of the Bill Cullum Invitational as it recorded its best round of the tournament Tuesday at the par-72 Wood Ranch Golf Club.
 
The Anteaters were 3-under in the third round for a 54-hole score of 886 (306-295-285).
 
Boise State ran away with the team title at 21-under 843. The Broncos were eight strokes ahead of second-place Cal State Fullerton (851). BSU's Brian Humphreys was individual medalist with a 205 (-11).
 
Junior Ramiz Jamal was UCI's top finisher, tying for 29th with a three-round total of 219 (73-73-73). Jamal ranked first among the tournament field in Par 3 scoring and tied for the team lead with 12 birdies.
 
Junior Anthony Truong led Tuesday's charge as he birdied four of his final seven holes for a 4-under 68. Truong jumped 24 spots into a tie for 34th as he registered a 54-hole score of 220 (75-77-68).
 
Freshman Matt Gunson also put together the best round of his young collegiate career at 1-under 71. Gunson tied for 59th with a 225 (81-73-71). He matched Jamal with 12 birdies over the course of the tournament.
 
Junior Chris Casey tied for 72nd at 229 (78-78-73), while freshman Nathan Irwin was 83rd at 234 (80-72-82).
 
Junior Jonathan Kang, who was competing as an individual, was also 78th with a total of 231 (77-76-78).
 
UC Irvine will close out its fall season next week at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational, Oct. 25-27.
