RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The UC Irvine women's cross country team finished seventh out of 22 teams at the Highlander Invitational Saturday morning at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course.

The Anteaters had three individuals finish among the top-50. Freshman
Natalie Ewe led the way in 27th place as she covered the 5000-meter course in a personal-record 17:57.70. Ewe saw an improvement of over a minute from her first 5K of the season on Sept. 1 (19:05.8).
"Natalie had a great race today," UCI distance coach
Chris Evans said. "She really moved up throughout the entire distance and had a great finish. Once again, our pack was tight and close. We just have to finish higher as a group to take that next step at conference."

Brenda Dorantes ran her best race of the year, coming in 43rd with a lifetime-best 18:13.71. Freshman
Perla Aguilar wasn't far behind in 46th at 18:17.82.

Keely Boyd clocked in at 18:23.81 (53rd) for her second 5K PR of the season. Freshman
Hannah Chau was also 59th with a personal-best 18:29.96, while juniors
Mariah Theologidy (65th) and
Anastasia Karnaze (74th) had season bests of 18:34.83 and 18:48.09, respectively.

UC Irvine now has two weeks to prepare for the Big West Championships at Carbon Canyon Regional Park (Brea, Calif.) on Saturday, Oct. 27.
