SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The UC Irvine men's cross country team had a pair of individuals place among the top-three en route to a runner-up team finish Saturday at the Master's University XC Invitational in Santa Clarita's Central Park.
 
The 'Eaters had 46 points to finish behind only Pac-12 member UCLA (26).
 
Sophomore Hector Garcia and senior Izzak Mireles led UCI as the duo came in second and third out of 165 overall competitors.
 
Garcia took silver, covering the 8000-meter course in 25:04.7, which was just three seconds behind the individual champion. He was the Anteaters' top finisher for the third time in as many races and now owns a pair of top-three performances. Mireles also notched his second third-place showing of the year after clocking in at 25:10.0.
 
Junior Ashton Garcia was 20th overall with a time of 25:47.3, while freshman Ravi Sharma followed in 21st (25:48.1). Sophomore Sam Ayala (26:04.3) and junior Jon Rodriguez (26:04.4) came in next for the 'Eaters in 34th and 35th, respectively. Junior Andrew Graciano rounded out UC Irvine's top-seven with an 8K personal-record 26:39.7 (62nd).
 
Freshmen Kit Carter (27:35.8) and Xavier Weaver (28:54.7) also competed for UCI.
 
UCLA's Millen Trujillo won the men's collegiate 8K in 25:01.5.
 
UC Irvine will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 14, when it heads to Riverside for the Highlander Classic. It is the Anteaters' final tune-up before the Big West Championships on Oct. 28.
