UCI Posts Top-15 Finish Among NCAA Division I Teams in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -
For the second time in as many meets this season, sophomore Anastasia Karnaze led the UC Irvine women's cross country team as she was the Anteaters' top runner at the 37th annual UC Riverside Invitational Saturday morning.
 
Karnaze came in 90th overall (61st among NCAA Div I athletes), finishing the 6000-meter race at the UCR Ag/Ops Course in 21:59.2. Senior Jenessa Reyes crossed the finish line next for the 'Eaters, clocking in at a career-best 22:30.7 (135th).
 
Sophomore Keely Boyd was also 150th overall (22:44.7), and junior Megan Mirkhanian was 162nd with a personal-record 23:08.1. Sophomore Brenda Dorantes was right behind her at 23:12.9, while freshman Amy Flores (24:35.9) and senior Olympia Martinez (24:46.3) rounded out UCI's' top seven.
 
Arkansas won the team title with 36 points. The Anteaters were 23rd overall and 14th among NCAA Division I schools. Kristen Findley of Big Bear Track Club was the individual champion (19:56.1), and Jenna Hinkle of UC Santa Barbara was the top collegiate finisher at 19:59.8.
 
UC Irvine will have a couple weeks to prepare for the TMU XC Invitational (formerly known as the Mustang Challenge) in Santa Clarita on Saturday, Sept. 30. The women's 5K race is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. start.
