McKenna Mitchell Nets Big West Player Of The Week Honors Again

IRVINE, Calif. – Senior McKenna Mitchell earned Big West Women's Water Polo Player of the Week honors after helping UC Irvine to a 4-0 record at the Michigan Wolverine Invitational, including two wins over Top 10 teams.

The center scored 11 goals over the tournament increasing her career total to 168 goals and moving her into sixth place all-time at UCI.

Mitchell equaled her season-high with four goals in an 11-10 victory over No. 7 Michigan. She led the UCI charge back from an 8-4 deficit against the Wolverines, assisting on a goal and then scoring three consecutive goals to narrow the gap to 9-8 heading into the fourth quarter.

Mitchell also had four goals in a win over Bucknell, scoring a goal in every quarter against the Bison.

She had a goal in UCI's 11-7 victory over No. 18 Hartwick, and found the back of the net twice in an 8-6 triumph over No. 9 Pacific.

The All-American is second on the team with 31 goals this season. This is the fourth award for the Anteaters this year and the second for Mitchell.

Fifth-ranked UCI is now 13-6 on the year and will host Big West rival Hawaii Friday (Mar. 10) at the Anteater Aquatics Complex.
