RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Senior Lloyd Sicard led the UC Irvine men's track & field team Saturday at the UC Riverside Spring Classic Invitational.
Sicard earned his second consecutive victory in the 110m hurdles as he finished ahead of the pack in a season-best 13.93. He was the only competitor in the field of 17 to crack the 14-second mark.
The Gardena, Calif., native then closed out the meet by running the opening leg on the Anteaters' first-place 4x400 relay. Sicard joined forces with senior Brandon Howard, sophomore Paul Resong and sophomore Isaiah Jewett to establish a meet-record 3:12.43.
Sophomore Branden Randall had a runner-up showing in the steeplechase, clocking in at 9:42.75. Junior Ashton Garcia followed in third place at 9:50.76. Junior Izzak Mireles also ran a personal-best 8:40.67 to come in fourth in the 3000m.
Freshman Samuel Ayala ran UCI's fastest 1500m time this season at 4:02.28, which was good for fourth overall, while freshman Hector Garcia led the way in the mile with a fifth-place showing (4:18.61).
Freshmen Jordan Gibson (21.79) and Evan Singletary (22.12) contributed a pair of season bests and top-10 performances in the 200m. Classmate Andres Woodruff did the same in the 800m where he crossed the finish line in 1:59.89.
In the field events, sophomore Omar Valenzuela took third in the discus (163-02). Senior Matt Seawright was also a finalist in the hammer throw where he finished sixth with a season-best 190-04. Junior Jon Dickinson added a season-best 157-06 (11th), while tallying a personal-record 49-07.00 in the shot put to come in sixth.
UC Irvine will be back in action on Saturday, April 1, when it heads to Sacramento for the Mondo Team Challenge.
