IRVINE, Calif. – The UC Irvine men's track & field team kicked off its home-opening UCI Spring Break Collegiate Classic with two events on Friday.
The meet started with the hammer throw at Golden West College in Huntington Beach. Senior Matt Seawright, who led the 'Eaters with a fourth-place finish, notched UCI's top throw of the season in just his first meet as he unleashed a toss of 182-04. Junior Jon Dickinson was also eighth with a season-best 156-08.
In the evening, UC Irvine had three individuals place among the top-10 in the 5000m at Anteater Stadium. Junior Izzak Mireles paced the group, clocking in at 14:51.66 to come in sixth, while freshman Hector Garcia (15:08.78) and sophomore Branden Randall (15:10.17), were eighth and ninth, respectively.
The Anteaters will be back in action tomorrow on the second and final day of the UCI Spring Break Collegiate Classic. The field events begin at 10 a.m., while action on the track gets underway at noon.
