FULLERTON, Calif. – The UC Irvine men's track & field team wrapped up action at the Ben Brown Invitational Saturday at Titan Track Complex.
Sophomore Isaiah Jewett led the 'Eaters with an individual victory in the 400m. Jewett notched a personal-best 47.38, putting him at No. 10 in school history. He is the first to crack UCI's top-10 in that event since Charles Jock in 2011.
Freshman Hector Garcia led the distance runners as he was sixth overall in the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:18.05. Classmate Samuel Ayala wasn't far behind in eighth (4:19.20), while juniors Ashton Garcia (4:20.73) and Izzak Mireles (4:22.84) were 12th and 14th, respectively.
Senior David Aguilar was the Anteaters' top finisher in the 800m with a 12th-place showing. He registered a season-best 1:55.74, while senior Brandon Howard also placed among the top-20 at 1:59.57. Freshman Andres Woodruff added a top-15 performance in the 400m hurdles (56.80).
In his first collegiate 200m race, freshman Evan Singletary recorded UC Irvine's fastest time so far this season at 22.36.
In the field events, sophomore Omar Valenzuela tied for third in the discus with a lifetime-best 165-02. Junior Jon Dickinson added a season-best 45-11.75 in the shot put.
On Friday, sophomore Jon Rodriguez finished first in the steeplechase with a personal-record 9:33.81. Sophomore Branden Randall was right behind Rodriguez as he was the runner-up at 9:33.82. Dickinson also registered a season-best 154-10 in the hammer throw.
UC Irvine will make its home debut next weekend when it hosts the UCI Spring Collegiate Classic, March 17-18.
