IRVINE, Calif. – Women's water polo player Kelsey Thornton has been named this week's Buffalo Wild Wings Anteater of the Week after leading UC Irvine at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational.

The senior lead the Anteaters to a 14-10 victory over No. 12 San Diego State, scoring the first two goals of the game and finishing with a career high four goals. Thornton went on to score three goals in a victory against No. 7 Hawaii in a quarterfinal game then had two more against No. 5 Arizona State to end the tournament.

Thornton finished the nation's toughest tournament with nine goals as the sixth-ranked Anteaters ended in sixth place. She was also honored by the Big West Conference as Player of the Week for her efforts.

The Anteaters will travel to the Michigan Wolverine Invitational Saturday and Sunday (Mar. 4-5), taking on Hartwick in their first game.
