ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Junior Persis William-Mensah highlighted the final day of the Don Kirby Elite Invitational for the UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team as she set a school record in the 60-meter dash Saturday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
William-Mensah bettered her own record in the 60m semifinals where she clocked in at 7.41 seconds (7.43 altitude adjusted). The Costa Mesa, Calif., native also took eighth in the finals.
William-Mensah's previous best was 7.49, which she ran at last year's UW Invitational. It was her second program record of the weekend as she also notched a UCI-best 24.31 in the 200m.
Senior Megan George advanced out of the 60m hurdle semifinals as she came in eighth with a time of 8.43. She went on to finish eighth in the finals as well.
In the mile, senior Marisa Gonzalez led a trio of 'Eaters with a top-30 showing after clocking in at 5:28.53. Sophomore Megan Mirkhanian (5:30.00) and freshman Keely Boyd (5:37.28) both added season bests.
UC Irvine now has a week to prepare for the MPSF Championships in Seattle, Wash., Feb. 24-25.
