Men's Golf Ties for 15th in Fall Finale

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -
The UC Irvine men's golf team closed out its final fall tournament with a 15th-place finish at The Saint Mary's Invitational on Wednesday.
 
The 'Eaters recorded a 54-hole score of 881 (297-289-295) at the renowned Poppy Hills Golf Club. They tied for 15th with UT Arlington.
 
No. 33 USC claimed the team title with a 28-under 824, and was followed by No. 13 Stanford (830) and No. 21 Colorado State (840). The 18-team field featured seven programs ranked among the top-50 in the nation according to Golfstat.com.
 
Senior David Kim was the Anteaters' top finisher for the fourth tournament in a row. He had a three-round total of 5-over 218 to tie for 48th. Kim started off the SMC Invitational with an even-par 71, and followed with rounds of 73 and 74.
 
Sophomore Jonathan Kang was only two strokes behind Kim at 220 (75-71-74) to tie for 55th. He opened the day with an eagle on Hole 1 before posting a 3-over-74.
 
Junior Ramiz Jamal also came in 65th at 223 (76-71-76), while senior Ryan O'Connor was 80th at 227 (75-74-78).
 
Senior Jonathan Young rounded out the 'Eater contingent in 92nd place at 230 (81-78-71). He fired a team-best 71 on Wednesday, marking a 10-stroke improvement from the first round of play.

The Trojans' Justin Suh was individual medalist with a score of 13-under 200. He finished five strokes ahead of runner-up Patrick Fishburn (BYU).
 
UC Irvine will now have a couple months to prepare for the spring portion of its schedule as it returns to action at the Waves Challenge in Malibu, Jan. 29-30.
