SEATTLE, Wash. - The UC Irvine men's cross country team closed out its 2017 season with a 19th-place finish at the NCAA West Regional Friday morning at Jefferson Park Golf Course.

Three 'Eaters placed among the top-100 for the first time since 2012. Sophomore
Hector Garcia was UCI's No. 1 runner for the fifth time in six races this season, coming in 77th among 207 of the West region's elite. Garcia covered the 10000-meter course in a personal-record 31:10.3, shaving over 33 seconds off his previous best.

Senior
Izzak Mireles and junior Jon Rodriguez followed in 87th and 88th, respectively. Mireles clocked in with a lifetime-best 31:17.0, while Rodriguez registered an impressive 31:18.5 in his first 10K race.

Freshman Ravi Sharma came in fourth for the Anteaters at 32:35.0 (150th), and junior
Ashton Garcia rounded out the team's scorers in 165th (32:56.6).

Sophomore
Sam Ayala (171st, 33:05.6) and freshman Kit Carter (191st, 33:51.2) also competed for UC Irvine.

Portland edged out Washington (65) for the team title with 63 points. The Pilots' Emmanuel Roudolff-Levisse was the individual NCAA West Regional champion at 29:33.1.
