The men's and women's basketball teams make their debut on Friday (Oct. 27) at the annual Shocktoberfest held at the Bren Events Center. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
Â
LET THE GAMES BEGIN
The Anteaters, who will be introduced publically for the first time, will compete in a Battle of the Classes three-point shooting contest, then end the festivities with the annual dunk contest by the men's team.
Â
Last year,
Andee Ritter and Spencer Rivers paired to win the three-point contest for the sophomore class, while Tommy Rutherford won the dunk contest.
Â
TIME TO DANCE
Both teams will also perform a dance with the Modern Completely Insane Anteaters (MCIA), a hip-hop dance crew that performs at UCI basketball games throughout the year. The MCIA also does events around Southern California, including performing at Clippers games.
CONCERT TO FOLLOW
Following the basketball festivities, A$AP Ferg, 6lack and DJ Mustard will perform.
Â
Shocktoberfest has a reputation for bringing great artists to the Bren Events Center. In the past, Kendrick Lamar, Tyga, A$AP Rocky, The Chainsmokers, Sage the Gemini, Gym Class Heroes and Kehlani have hit the stage.
Â
PACKED HOUSE
A capacity crowd will get to watch the teams in action as the event is sold out.Â
Â
A BIG DEAL
The event is the largest and longest-running basketball season-opening celebration in Southern California, selling out with more than 5,000 attendees every year.Â
