SEATTLE, Wash. – Five 'Eaters kicked off the two-day UW Invitational for the UC Irvine women's indoor track & field team Friday at Dempsey Indoor.

Junior Persis William-Mensah led the way, clocking in at 24.83 seconds to place 10th out of a field of 94 competitors in the 200-meter dash. William-Mensah is already the indoor school record holder in the 200m (24.79) as well as the 60m (7.49).

Freshman Anastasia Karnaze continued to impress in just her second collegiate meet as she registered the fourth-fastest indoor 3000m time in program history (10:14.91). She placed 11th overall. This was Karnaze's second top-10 mark in her young career after finishing the mile in 5:14.39 last weekend (No. 7 at UCI).

Freshman Brenda Dorantes added a personal-best 10:38.04, which ranks ninth in program history.

Sophomore Barbara Coward came in 20th in the weight throw. Her best toss of the evening came on her second attempt when she hit 50-02.50.

Sophomore Hope Bushnell was disqualified in the 200m, but will compete again tomorrow in the 60m.

UC Irvine returns to Dempsey Indoor on Saturday, Jan. 28, when it closes out the UW Invitational with a full day of action starting at 9 a.m.
