IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine senior Jonathan Muñoz was named to the District VIII CoSIDA Academic All-District team for the second team in his Anteater career.
The lists were unveiled Thursday with 12 players making the regional list for District VIII, and Jonathan Muñoz made the grade, one of two Big West recipients. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Muñoz received the honor once before in 2014 as a sophomore alongside Taylor Sparks. Now, the criminology, law, and society major has a second honor to his name, and will find out if he's Academic All-American-worthy later his schoolyear. He's already put up a .257 batting average with a home run and 13 RBI in 35 games.
Muñoz is the third Anteater to earn multiple honors joining Francis Larson in 2008 and 2009 and Gregg Wallis who was a three-time winner from 2003-05.
